Tenere 700: LoneRider Overlander 30 Litre Dry Duffel Bag & 3 Litre Hydration Bladder + OneFeng Sports Locking Tiedown Straps with Steel Braided Cables

LoneRider Overlander 30 Litre Dry Duffel Bag & 3 Litre Hydration Bladder

The LoneRider Overlander series (30 & 48 litre) dry duffel bags (see video & pics below) are high quality, innovative, feature laden, flexible use, 3 layer waterproof roll top bags made from durable Hypalon fabric featuring:

  • reversible beavertail with molle strap system & internal pocket that accommodates a 3 litre hydration bladder with quick release insulated hose & angled bite valve easing use with full face helmets (sold separately) + large touch screen sensitive detachable map/tablet pocket
  • 4 quick detach bag mounting straps, each with an additional buckle to connect the straps in an opposing or criss-cross pattern to either stow them on the bike or secure items to the bike when the bag is not used
  • 4 molle straps w/buckle to customize bag mounting strap location or provide quick release molle attachment points elsewhere on the bag
  • 2 long extension straps with looped & buckle ends to secure larger items to the bag in conjunction with the beavertail
  • integrated strap stow system with velcro to conveniently secure excess strap material - prefer this method vs elasticized open ended band style used by Enduristan, Giant Loop & Nelson Rigg
  • 2 rows of molle straps per side, positioned near the top & bottom of the bag
  • detachable padded shoulder straps - can be worn like a back pack
  • high frequency welded waterproof seams
  • 3 interior (waterproof by virtue of being inside the drybag with multi-layer closure) & 3 exterior (water resistant) pockets with YKK AquaGuard zippers & storm flaps
  • air release valve - should be standard fitment on all soft bags
  • semi-rigid insert to maintain bag shape with high viz red liner + 3 mesh & 1 zippered pocket & 2 velcro attachment strips (see tip below)
  • a metal locking bar for use with a SteelCore locking strap or equivalent - all soft bags should include a method to secure them to the bike & their contents
  • 2 exterior velcro patches for attaching flag or ID badges
  • with 49 cm x 23 cm x 26 cm or 19.2" x  9" x 10.2" dimensions the bag is compliant with most airline carry-on luggage size limits 👍

Compared to multiple Nelson Rigg & the Enduristan Tornado 2 dry bags I have used over the years the LoneRider Outlander quality, functionality, features & price place it in the upper echelon of the roll top dry bag genre. LoneRider gear are premium products sold direct from their website so bought during their annual Black Friday 20% discount sale...pricing can be selected in 6 different currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUS, CHF) & is all inclusive for shipping (if over the minimum purchase amount & may vary dependent on region & other factors) & taxes...no additional fees such as duty or brokerage was charged & delivered to the Vancouver, BC area within the 2-5 days advertised for Canada & USA, in part, because they have warehouses in Europe, UK, USA, Canada & Australia...so remember to factor this in when comparative shopping.

LoneRider Neck Buff, Key Fob & Stickers included

TIP: Use a hair dryer or heat gun to reshape the bottom of the oval shaped plastic liner with 90 degree rounded bends so that it sits flat & matches the bag's radiused corners & shape.

A reviewer had commented that his Overlander bag rocked so much becoming loose when placed on his bike's tail rack that it wore a hole in the bag during a ride in cold weather. LoneRider warrantied the bag & recommended the tip about re-shaping the plastic insert with heat or that it flattens out somewhat when strapped to the bike in warm/hot weather. Perhaps his tail rack had sharp edges the bag chaffed against &/or his mounting straps weren't tight enough...regardless, soft luggage can be damaged if appropriate mounting precautions, placement & strap tension is not utilized.

Fitment on Tenere 700

The 30 litre Overlander fits the Yamaha Tenere 700 proportionately well, either inline or across the passenger seat &/or luggage rack & at 49 cm or 19.2" long accommodates my MSR Elixir tent & poles + being about the same width as my narrowed DirtRacks Heavy Duty Soft Bag Luggage Racks allowing unencumbered access to my Giant Loop quick release & lockable Pannier Mounts for Soft Luggage Mounts & Moto Trekk 25 Litre Soft Panniers

Overlander Mounting, Extension & Molle Straps

Correct orientation of the 4 mounting straps places the strap with the integrated velcro stow system facing away from the bag to facilitate convenient tension adjustment & stowage of excess strap material. This will position the additional female buckle attached to the opposite loop end of the strap facing down or toward the bag, which is used to connect the straps in an opposing or criss-cross pattern to either stow them on the bike or secure items to the bike when the bag is not used. Perhaps a quality control issue, but 1 of the 4 straps is almost 5 cm or 2" shorter.

4 Mounting Straps

LoneRider uses a manually fed strap & buckle to create an attachment loop vs the sewn permanent loop used on one end of the included 2 extension straps, to attach the 4 mounting straps to mounting points on the bike or racks. As a result the loose strap end does not have the integrated velcro strap stow system used elsewhere & could benefit from elasticized open ended bands positioned just in front of the loop buckle to secure excess strap material & the additional female buckle from hanging down, flapping & rubbing on unwanted surfaces when not in use. The jury is still out as to if this strap & buckle loop system offers benefits vs a simpler permanent loop strap end, however, the buckle requires more physical space, may rub on unwanted surfaces & loosen under certain conditions.

2 Extension Straps

The additional female buckle on each of the 4 mounting straps & their close proximity to the loop & buckle end of the straps uses valuable space that could otherwise be utilized to tighten the straps when the mounting location on the bike or rack is close to the bag's attachment buckles located low on the bag, sometimes necessitating an attachment location further away or use of the 4 additional molle strap buckles attached to the bag's upper row molle straps to allow adequate range of tension adjustment to hold the bag secure. I opted to secure the 4 additional hard plastic buckles with bicycle inner tube cut to length, which serves double duty to prevent the buckles from hanging down, flapping & rubbing on unwanted surfaces when not in use & to secure excess strap material on the loop end (see 4 mounting straps pic above).

NOTE: Outlander Duraflex UTX buckles are not compatible with Rok Straps buckles.

Beavertail / Hydration Pouch / Map Pocket

This is a really useful & appreciated feature that separates the Outlander from the competition permitting multiple configurations & usages depending on desired needs. The removable & reversible beavertail is 45 cm x 28 cm or 17.75" x 11", has 8 rows of molle straps & 2 reflective strips on one side & 4 female buckles, hydration pouch with zippered opening & water bladder lanyard, 50 cm or 2" pass thru hole for the hydration bladder hose (the addition of velcro would help seal the opening from dust & water, particularly when the hydration bladder is not in use & moisture/dust sensitive items are stored there), a second zippered water resistant pocket & 2 velcro strips attaching the map pocket on the other side.

The removable touch sensitive map/tablet pocket is 34.3 cm x 22.8 cm or 13.5" x 9" with internal dimensions of 32.5 cm x 20.3 cm or 12.75" x 8" & a viewable area of  29.2 cm x 20.3 cm or 11.5" x 8".  The front side has a fold over waterproof (excluding submersion) flap with velcro attachment & the back side has 2 velcro strips for attachment to the beavertail. Care should be taken to prevent damage to the relatively thin clear plastic, particularly when the beavertail is positioned with the map pocket facing down against the bag & the metal locking bar...stowing the padded shoulder straps between the beavertail & the bag vs removing them help add a buffer.
