Tenere 700: Giant Loop MotoTrekk Panniers - Possibles Pouch - Pannier Mounts for Soft Luggage Mounts - Armadillo Bag 2-Gallon (7.5L) Liquid Power Reservoir

 Giant Loop MotoTrekk Panniers

MotoTrekk Panniers are slim, rugged, dry bag-inspired panniers sized for overnight or multi-day trips. Made of welded waterproof fabric and featuring a roll-top closure, contents stay dry and dust free. In addition, their integrated mounting system enables them to strap to virtually any motorcycle side luggage racks, working well for both on- and off-road adventures.

Other rider-friendly features include lash loops to secure waterproof roll-top Possibles Pouches™ to the front and back of the panniers for expanded storage capacity, and quick-connect magnetic buckles to facilitate easy mounting and removal - even when packed.

The GL MotoTrekk 25 litre panniers are great sized waterproof & durable soft bags that I combined with the GL Pannier Mounts for hard bag convenience/functionality + 4 Possibles Pouches that make for a versatile combo for a variety of uses on my Tenere 700. GL's evolution & design detail shine through + the colour scheme compliments my 2021 matte black/grey Yamaha Tenere 700!

Aug 2022 Updated User Report After 10 Day 3,800 km Trip

The 25 litre/bag MotoTrekk bags seem right sized from a capacity & aesthetic perspective on the T7 &  compliment my Matte Black 2021 T7 well.  GL provides generous length roll tops & strapping, with elastic keepers to stow any excess, that permit over packing (something that hard bags don't accommodate) or strapping on additional items on the top or the across front. The material seems thick, yet pliable & should provide good durability, reasonable abrasion resistance & years of use if properly used & maintained. It was only 1 trip, but quality of the material, stitching, straps & metal fasteners seem high...byproducts of the design/engineering/development that goes into a mature product made by people who actually use it.

They performed as advertised keeping contents secure, dry & free of dust without the need for liners & the quick detachable & lockable Panier Mounts for Soft Luggage simplify installation/removal eliminating one of the biggest draw backs to soft luggage - the often tedious & time consuming mounting strap system that can become frustrating when everything is caked in mud & wet & cold.  However, that is not too imply that they offer full hard bag convenience, as there still are straps & roll tops to deal with for opening/closing the MotoTrekk bags & the optional Possibles Pouches & attaching/tightening the MotoTrekk bags to the Pannier Mounts + are not as secure to prying eyes. To provide fair comment, GL has developed an integrated strap system that is well sorted & about as simple to use as can be, securing the bags snuggly to the bike...they provide detailed instruction videos on their website.

1 of 2 frustrations was with accessing the MotoTrekk roll top buckles sandwiched between the 4 attached Possibles Pouches, which required loosening the 2 Possibles Pouches attachment straps to allow additional room for my hands to get to the MotoTrekk buckles. They tended to flop around a little unless very snuggly cinched up with their straps (a concern on the exhaust side), which in turn restricts access to items in them.  I have now deviated from the GL recommended strap attachment method that loops the 2 Possibles Pouch mounting straps around their exterior, to behind the bags, securing them via just the molle straps to the MotoTrekk bags & placing the MotoTrekk roll top straps/buckles on the outside of them...which allows quicker & easier access to the main bags while adding additional support/stabilization, particularly to the bottom of the smaller bags...this allows overall easier/quicker access to both sets of bags despite needing to undue 1 of the Moto Trekk roll top buckles to access the Possibles Pouch bag imho.

My other frustration was that I found the Possibles Pouch 3.5 litre size too small, limiting functionality & would not accommodate a can of chain lube & a water or fuel bottle in the same bag. I know that GL kept proportions inline with the MotoTrekk bag size/shape & had to balance capacity, additional loading & potential interference with passengers & riders for a variety of bikes, but a 5 litre capacity would be far more useful/functional, so long as the bags increase slightly in width/depth & not just height.

Giant Loop Possibles Pouch

Giant Loop’s 100% waterproof, dustproof, mudproof roll-top Possibles Pouch makes external pockets for MoJavi Saddlebag, Coyote Saddlebag, Great Basin Saddlebag and MotoTrekk Panniers. With 3.5-liters of packable volume - enough capacity for a full set of tire irons, a spare tube, compressor, tools, gloves or other small essentials. Possible Pouches secure to engine guards with included webbing straps.

Versatile sized dry bags with integrated mount system for my GL MotoTrekk bags that can be used elsewhere & on crash bars. I bought 4 which are great for a variety of stuff that you want easy access to such as a 1st aide kit & tools. My only wish might be for a slightly larger 5 L version to accommodate bigger water/fuel bottles.

As of late 2021 GL has redesigned the Possibles Pouch laminating the extra material attached to the outside of the dry bag that the straps runs through & the packaging info sheet.  My order was caught in the transition & I received 3 of the new design & 1 old.

Sept 2022 Update: Tactix Large Waterproof Case Mounted To Tail Rack

I switched from the Enduristan soft tail bag to a Tactix Large Waterproof Defender Case bolted to my tail rack...full review can be viewed elsewhere on my blog via this link.

These quick detach, locking pannier backing plate mounts w/RotoPax capability have set the standard for the industry for minimalistic, light weight, high quality functionality & are one of the few options to allow these features for soft luggage.  Having similar convenience for quick detach & lockability to the bike as with hard luggage for soft luggage cannot be overstated, particularly for dual sport & adv genres! They add welcome versatility/convenience for the GL MotoTrekk & Round The World Soft luggage as well as for most soft & hard bags...thank you Harold & GL :)

Fitment Issues for racks larger than 18 mm diameter tubing & with welded center bar: GL Pannier Mounts are designed for the industry standard 16-18 mm rack diameter tubing & unfortunately do not work with my 3/4" or 19.05 mm diameter powder coated (19.2 mm) tubing DirtRacks HD Soft Luggage Racks without modification . The lower clamps are slightly wider at the open end with angled surfaces near the upper portion of the clamp so will fit diameters from approximately 16 to almost 19 mm, but the upper locking clamp is a uniform shape that required removal of the rack powder coat & buffing of the tubing to allow the locking latch to close enough for the locking pin to align with the hole.  Another issue is that the GL Pannier Mounts upper locking clamp will not completely close enough for the locking pin to function because of interference with the welded on center bar for mounting a Rotopx, when used in the standard center position...although the GL locking assembly has pre-drilled holes permitting relocating it left or right of center.... a side effect of moving the upper clamp assembly off-centre left or right is the the opposite side of the backing plate will flex & benefits from a rubber spacer between the rack & the GL backing plate.

It would have been nice if the upper mount assembly could also have vertical adjustment capability, but unfortunately, as noted in the very thorough  WebBikeWorld Review, it cannot be moved down to facilitate mounting the bags higher...however, the lower clamps accommodate several vertical & horizontal position.  GL should also include a thumb screw bolt for each of the lower bar clamps vs just 1 to prevent rattling...each clamp is threaded, but only 1 thumb screw bolt provided. Note that the GL MotoTrekk back center strap w/magnetic clasp will not work with the pannier mount upper locking assembly located in the center (normal) position, but will if it is relocated to the left or right position, but is not really needed as the mount accommodates the 4 side straps & the 2 upper straps.

Jan 2022:  Just wanted to give a shout out to Harold & Giant Loop for another example of class leading support of their products & customer service.  Covid has disrupted supply chains & they have struggled to ship  orders in a timely manner recently, particularly with the spike of Black Friday purchases, because of extraordinary delays in receipt of their products from their suppliers.  With the absence of new inventory & no firm eta of new stock & in an effort to support their retailers & customers they were pulling out all the stops & shipping display models rather than force retailers & customers to wait indefinitely, but unfortunately my GL Pannier Mounts arrived in not new condition with some scrapes to the anodizing & the locktite container had burst coating all the stainless hardware in a sticky mess in the bag..  They immediately offered to refund the full retail price upon return (which would have exceeded my BF pricing) or a generous credit to compensate for the lack of new condition. Crazy & unpredictable times....thank you GL😀

I used my credit (see above) to buy the recently revised/improved/reduced cost 2 US gal or 7.5 litre GL Armadillo Bag™ liquid reservoir. They are flexible, collapsible, lightweight, expedition-ready utility bladders for the safe transport and storage of liquid hydrocarbon products and other powersports and automotive fluids, available in 1-, 2-, 3- and 5-gallon sizes that includes a pour spout.

The redesigned Armadillo bladders include some thoughtful updates + an unexpected price reduction from the previous offering...kudos Harold & GL! Imho these are a great alternative to bulkier & rigid fuel storage options & the molle strap system allows RokStrap, GL straps & even a locking cable for securing to your bike. The 2 gal or 7.5 litre bag can extend my Tenere 700 range beyond 500 km, pack small when not needed & allow placement for best weight distribution/cg :)
