Comparison of 2 AliExpress Universal Motorcycle Windshield Adjustable Clamp-On Deflectors/Spoilers

My original adjustable spoiler & MRA Xcreen Touring bolt-on hardware got damaged during a tip over in the garage so decided to compare 2 AliExpress sourced large clip-on style adjustable deflectors. A $24 (Cdn) DuoBeiSi & $39 (Cdn) YAMOTC with near identical windsceen dimensions & shape but with differing adjustment & mounting systems & better quality plexi/optics on the more expensive YAMOTC V3.

DuoBieSi (AliExpress) Universal Motorcycle Windshield Extension Adjustable Spoiler Clamp-On Windscreen Deflector

The mounting system is similar to the MRA Xcreen Touring clamp-on hardware in design & function, except for the clamp-on vs bolt on MRA mount I previously used (see bottom of this blog post). The DuoBeiSi u-shaped clamps with u-shaped rubber inserts/bumpers utilizing 2 allen bolt screws pushing a slide-in plastic plate/per mount provides a cleaner, more secure & rigid mounting point than the YAMOTC system (see  pics from AliExpress website below).

Vertical adjustment is where the 2 deflectors differ most...the DuoBieSi attachment arms are 55 mm (2.16") long providing 110 mm (4.3") of adjustment via an arc shaped movement with variable distance from the windscreen depending on height position, while the YAMOTC utilizes a clear plastic vertical slider mechanism bonded to the deflector offering the same 110 mm (4.3") height adjustment range with fixed distance from the main windscreen.

I prefer the DuoBeiSi mounting system for it's more secure attachment to the main windscreen, cleaner aesthtics & more lateral rigidity. However, the dual articulating joints on each arm of the DuoBieSi are more finicky to obtaining the most rigid locked position & have more slack in them even with the locking tab in the locked position vs the MRA counterparts, allowing more rotational play or movevement of the delfector that can be somewhat distracting while riding, particulary in reflective conditions (perhaps a consequence of lower quality material & manufacturing tolerences of a copied design).

Update: I was able to replace the DuoBeiSi articulating arms & associated locking tabs (which appear to be direct copies of the MRA hardware) with my left over MRA counterparts, which have much tighter tolerences, that hold the spoiler tight at both adjustment points with no bounce & allow smaller angle adjustments for more precise positioning. 😀 The shallower curve of the spoiler vs that of the Skirdmarx windscreen did not allow mounting the spoiler directly to the bolt-on clamp, eliminating the arms as I had done on my original set up that used a cut off portion of the windscreen as the spoiler.

YAMOTC (Aliexpress) V3 Large Universal Motorcycle Windshield

Adjustable Clamp-On Windscreen Deflector/Spoiler

The V3 model use an upgraded mounting bracket with additional clamp bolt for improved grip & high definition material for reduced distortion & resistance to scratching vs other similar models sold. The adjustable mount differs from the dual articulating DuoBeiSi & MRA Xcreen Touring hardware (see pic at the bottom), whereby, it slides up & down for 110 mm or 4.3" height adjustment range maintaining uniform distance from the main windscreen & pivots on an integrated geared mount for angle adjustment.  The all plastic mounting hardware & design is adequate for pavement use, but may lack lateral rigidity for off-road use (see my modification further below)...the clamp-on design allows easy removal when desired (keep the enclosed bubble wrap pouch for storage when not in use).

• No assembly instructions included for the many parts requiring assembly, but a demonstration video is available on the Aliexpress website for the product;

• The upgraded mounting bracket 2nd clamping bolt, located about 2/3rds up from the bottom of the 2 plastic arms that form the clamp cause 2 issues if overtightened: 

1)  The original design utilizing just 1 top bolt incorporating a circular metal nut/pivot near the top of the 2 plastic arms comprising the clamp does not tighten the clamp uniformly, but more at the bottom because of the circular metal nut pivot point...similar to a clothes peg, except that the clamp arms need the bolt to close them vs spring tension for the clothes peg.

 

2)  The newly added 2nd clamp bolt located closer to the top of the brackets, but below the housing that the clamp arms fit into, allows adjustment of clamp pressure to the upper portion of the clamp for a more secure friction mount, but if overtightened pulls the bottom of the clamp arms away from contact with the main windscreen overwelming the rubber bumper's glue forcing them to slide down beyond the clamp arms & push the clamps up slightly on the main windscreen.  My solution was to wrap heavy duty black duct tap around each clamp arm securing the rubber inserts in place that added another layer of protective material between the clamps & the main windscreen & to just snug tight the 2nd clamp bolt. 

Dense Foam Insert Modification for Stabilization

I added some dense foam attached with 2 sided sticky tape to 2 of the mounting bracket surfaces, but not the surface facing the inside of the spoiler to allow for height adjustment & stabilize the spoiler from bounce (see pic below)...which was reasonably effective in stabilizing the assembly.

Ride Review

Both the DuoBeiSi & YAMOTC spoilers provide improved wind, buffetting & noise management vs without & a slightly wider, taller & calmer area of coverage vs my previous set up that utilized a cut off portion of the Skidmarx windscreen as the spoiler mounted with bolt-on MRA Xcreen Touring hardware. The optical clarity/quality of the DuoBeiSi deflector material is sufficient for it's purpose, while the YAMOTC high definition plastic is very clear & as distortion free as any curved plexi can be, but both are reflective making the paper map in my tank bag pouch a little distracting...have not ridden in the dark yet to see how it relects instrument & cell phone/nav lights. My polorized sun glasses cause a mild & muted starburst pattern eminating from the center bottom of the spoiler...not overly distracting & I soon forgot about it. Both offer good performance & value, however, I returned the YAMOTC, in part, because it arrived with damaged packaging & a scratch on the inside surface, but more because I preferrd the DuoBeiSi mounting system as a more stable & elegant design.  A hybrid of the 2 systems would be my choice...the DuoBei Si mounting system combined with the quality optics/plexi of the YAMOTC.

MRA Xcreen Dual Articulating Adjstable Mounting Hardware

The MRA height adjustment utilizes a pivoting arm with articulating joints at each end that moves in an arc creating variable distances from the main windscreen depending on height position & a bolt-on mounting location being lower than a clamp-on style allowing the spoiler to be lowered below the top of the main windscreen that provides more lateral rigidity imho vs the YAMOTC mounting system.  My experience was that the spoiler was more effective when adjusted closer to the main windscreen resulting in me removing the dual articulating arms & mounting the spoiler directly to the mounts bolted to the main windscreen allowing for only angle adjustment. Installation of a T7 Rally Windscreen Adjuster providing a range of 83 mm or 3.3" height adjustment for the main windscreen & attached spoiler.
