One of the few Dakar inspired design elements of the Tenere 700 that took precedent over functionality is the low mount position of the oem muffler & the welded vs bolted on exhaust hanger that bends easily allowing the muffler to hit & gouge into the aluminum swingarm, even with just a parking lot tip over.
Some discovered that the recent generation Honda CB500X mid-pipe fit the T7 & positioned the muffler further from the swingarm providing a little more buffer between the swingarm & muffler, but did nothing to address the oem hanger's susceptibility to easily bend.
High Exhaust Conversions
This has fueled both individual & aftermarket conversions that relocate the muffler higher, away from the swingarm via a few different mid-pipe configurations & oem hanger modification/partial elimination. Some permit use of the oem passenger foot peg hangers & most aftermarket luggage racks that utilize the foot peg hanger bolt location for the front support mount, while some don't. Several incorporate smaller diameter/shorter length mufflers that tuck tight into the void under & behind the rear oem body panels, but exit exhaust near the turn signals damaging them unless a heat shield is used, particularly tail tidy conversions that relocate the signals higher. Others position the muffler where the oem hanger is located & align with the body panel sweep which is where Yamaha should have located it imho producing pleasing aesthetics. This moves the muffler inward reducing width permitting narrower luggage rack designs, moves the tail pipe higher for less susceptibility to water ingress during water crossings & permits use of full sized mufflers including the oem. While some just relocate the muffler higher & more vertical in keeping with Dakar tradition while still incorporating a low position mid-pipe connector. Some utilize smaller diameter mid-pipe tubing (oem muffler inlet is 40 mm) than the approximate 50 mm muffler inlet diameter popular with many aftermarket mufflers, in part to facilitate easier clearance around the swingarm with high mount muffler positions.
Here is a collection of several popular aftermarket & individual conversions...most aftermarket suppliers also offer standard position kits as well.
Offers 2 conversions, their original T7 High Exhuast Kit - Rally Bend & a more recent Enduro Bend both with the option of a Camel sourced muffler (Chinese) or a Scorpion Serket muffler. They are well sorted kits that require cutting the oem exhaust hanger (template included), however, the Rally Bend exits exhaust near the turn signals & the Enduro Bend does not permit use of the passenger foot peg mounts or most side mount luggage racks that utilize that attachment point...if only Cory had utilized a less severe upper bend that permitted foot peg hanger & luggage rack use, this would be on my bike now w/the Scorpion Serket muffler!
DominatoR
Offers a high mount kit that tucks in closest to the centerline of the bike & retains the oem exhaust hanger & use of the foot peg hangers, but exits exhaust near the turn signals. A great choice for rackless soft bag systems. They also have standard position kits.

Dennis Espinosa was doing custom high exhaust conversions in his New Jersey based shop in 2020/21 & put together many muffler/mid-pipe combos.
This is my muffler of preference based on quality, looks, sound, size, price & being a baffle design not requiring repacking for the Tenere 700...I just need to find someone local to make a custom high mid-pipe & hanger solution.

Far&Further had his friends at PunkMoto in Czech Republic fabricate a high position mid-pipe to fit his Scorpion Serket muffler as chronicled in this video.
MIVV Dakar Y.064.LDKX Exhaust + Carbon Heat Shield ACC.80.0 Why a New Exhaust? Yamaha opted for Dakar inspired styling & cost savings vs function with the design & location of the oem muffler for the Tenere 700 that positions it precariously low & outside the swingarm, attached to a welded on vs bolt on hanger that easily bends pushing the muffler into the aluminum swingarm with the slightest provocation (there have even been reports that some damaged bikes in the USA have been written off by insurance citing a bent frame). See my blog article here for additional info on the swingarm/muffler issue & several aftermarket T7 exhaust options. The oem wide muffler positioning also complicates the use of some soft bag & rackless systems & clearance with the hot muffler plus mandates that many luggage rack systems be detrimentally far away from the center line of the bike, adding unnecessary width & undesirable handling dynamics at the back end. Disclaimer: I am just a long time motorcycle enthusiast with moderate wrenching experience/skills (not a professional/Yamaha mechanic) & have compiled this info from others more experienced & knowledgeable as a reference based on my personal experience with my T7 that hopefully can help others. Fork Alignment & Right Fork Caliper/Rotor Position MUST Be Checked After Front Wheel Removal! T he T7 right front axle assembly is a floating design that, depending on several factors, may not correctly position the caliper & rotor for equal gap & can result in the rotor resting against the upper edge of the caliper...not a desirable situation if gone unnoticed. This information is NOT in the Yamaha Service Manual & can be an overlooked issue when changing the T7 front tire .. .the right fork's static/resting position is toward the outside on my T7, which incorrectly positions the inside edge of the caliper to make contact with the rotor ( has been posted by others ...
