Barkbusters Storm Kit Handguard Kit

The oem plastic handguards are inadequate for anything other than wind protection.  Several options are available, but I opted for the Barkbusters Storm handguard kit BHG-078 Black w/specific T7 mounting hardware.  The kit comes  with bar end weights that replace the oem.  The generic kit had clearance issues with the inner bar clamps & the tank at full lock.  The only fitment issue is that the inner bar clamps can interfere with the clutch cable & the brake line depending on the desired position of the clutch/brake levers & the Barkbuster handguards.  Barkbusters sells a B-054 Offset Clamp Connector that provides more clearance with the clutch & hydraulic brake cables, permitting increased adjustment range upwards of the handguards (see pics & fitment below). Alternative inner mounts like the Zeta BC Mount will eliminate clearance issues with cables & brake hoses/reservoirs + provide more resistance to rotation (see pic below), but do not know if they are compatible.  



ProGrip Dual Sport Rally Grip 714B

Used 0.73 mm or 0.028" galvanized wire + grip glue.  Because the oem grip is longer than the 125 mm Progrip & extends beyond the throttle tube to the bar end weight, I cut the oem grip outer flange & installed them between the ProGrips & the bar end weight to fill in the gab, cover the Barkbuster metal coloured bar insert & form a raised flange for my outer hand.






Good lever clearance.  BB could have provided 2 additional plastic inside mounts for the Storm plastics vs just 1.

Good clearance for Skidmarx XL windscreen, Powerbronze side deflectors & tank

 



Am considering adding the Zeta BC Mount which will work with the T7 40 mm bar clamp bolt spacing & 1/18" bar diameter, but may have clearance issues with the front brake cylinder housing.

Fork Alignment & Right Fork Caliper/Rotor Position MUST Be Checked After Front Wheel Removal! T he T7 right front axle assembly is a floating design that, depending on several factors, may not correctly position the caliper & rotor for equal gap & can result in the rotor resting against the upper edge of the caliper...not a desirable situation if gone unnoticed. This information is NOT in the Yamaha Service Manual & can be an overlooked issue when changing the T7 front tire .. .the right fork's static/resting position is toward the outside on my T7, which incorrectly positions the inside edge of the caliper to make contact with the rotor ( has been posted by others

2021 Tenere 700: 3 year Review

  2021 Yamaha Tenere 700 3 year Review The T7 has really impressed me with it's overall competence, quality, refinement, fun factor &  endearing synergy & cache. It has a big dirt bike feel while also being very road friendly with a jack of all trades, master of none capability that I really enjoy & appreciate.  Aside from its height & high center of gravity the T7 is confidence inspiring off-road & easy to ride with it's ample, linear, torque rich power & very good traction compliments of frame, swingarm & output shaft geometry optimized to push the rear tire down on acceleration.
