CP2 Motor RPM Dependent Whir/Whine Noise
According to my dealer the cause is most likely the cam chain tensioner, although others think it may be from the valve train...on my bike it became more noticeable after break-in & is a slightly higher pitched whir/whine noise that is rev dependent that does not change with the clutch pulled in & most prominent when standing on the right side of the bike & in the bottom half of the rpm range. The volume/prominence can vary per bike as I compared it to 2 other T7s & all were slightly different in volume/prominence. Several current Yamaha models use a similar cam chain tensioner & make a similar noise. I was told it is normal for the CP2 motor. My T7 has 3k km & the noise level of the whir/whine has remained constant since it's initial change after break-in & became slightly muted since changing to Maxima Extra4 15w50 triple ester fully synthetic vs Yamaha 15w50 fully synthetic that the dealer put in at the 1st service. I would only be concerned if the noise continues to change with more miles. The sound is best heard using headphones & most notable between 0:09 - 0:13 sec.

I changed to Maxima Extra 4 fully synthetic 15w/50 from the Yamaha Fully Synthetic 15w/50 the dealer put in at the 1st service. Based on 40k kms use on my Super Tenere 1200 & other motorcycles I believe that true triple ester based synthetic oils, like Maxima & Motul V300, to provide improved characteristics/performance compared to Yamaha's synthetic blend, most notably providing longer service life/shifting characteristics.
It is not that Yamalube is not a quality oil or does not meet all the industry standards/certifications for its application, it's just that the industry produces oils another tier higher that can provide that extra measure of protection/performance when you exceed service intervals or normal operational parameters.
